LHQ key sponsor at Costs conference headlined by Sir Rupert Jackson
LHQ is delighted to sponsor White Paper’s 2017 Costs conference in London next month. Called ‘Costs, Jackson, LASPO: Shaping the Rules into Solution-Focused Advice for Costs Lawyers and Litigators’ it promises to deliver ‘Answers to 14 Thorny Questions: Directly from Lord Justice Jackson, 2 Costs Judges, 3 Costs Counsel and 2 Managing Partners.’
The day kicks off with a Keynote from Lord Justice Jackson and then launches straight into an intense all-day roster of eight “tough questions” answered by the likes of Alexander Hutton QC, Master Peter Haworth both of whom need no introduction, Roger Mallalieu of 4 New Square and Co-author of “Costs & Funding Following the Civil Justice Reforms” and David Marshall, Managing Partner of Anthony Gold who was appointed to advise Lord Justice Jackson on his Review of Fixed Recoverable Costs and a member of the CJC’s Costs & Funding sub-committee.
After recess and lunch, we will be hearing from Shaman Kapoor of Temple Garden Chambers contributing editor to “Greenslade on Costs”, District Judge Ian Besford, Iain Stark, Chairman of the Association of Costs Lawyers, all being chaired by experienced costs silk Andrew Post QC who is well known for his engaging speaking style.
Some of the tough questions will include: “What are the prospects for consistency and predictability in the application of the new proportionality test?” In other words how can you advise a client on an offer?
“What is the practical significance of the New Format Bill of Costs?”
Is it open to abuse because of duplicate/triplicate entries and lack of description of work done?
And, “Can the parties agree to dispense with budgeting? Does the court have to approve their consent order?”, “Where does costs mediation fit into the matrix”?
No one disagrees that the world of costs budgeting never seems to stand still but for one day we can attempt to pin it down for what promises to be an insightful and stimulating day of debate and discussion.
